Guide Right Program
A national community service program of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Guide Right is a mentoring program for high school students. The Huntsville Alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi is comprised of men of great educational attainment with a sincere desire to serve. Community service has been one of the main objectives of the Huntsville Alumni chapter since being chartered on February 21, 1960.
The mentoring program for high school students consists of the following components:
Kappa Leadership League - known as Kappa League. This is a leadership development program for male students 9th through 12th grades.
Student of the Year Competition - High school students are coached in developing their talents and compete for academic scholarships.
Guide Right Leadership Retreat - Another approach to leadership development exposing students to a weekend of leadership development training and extracurricular activities.
Guide Right Objectives:
1. To inspire service in the public interest through the cultural enrichment and character development of African American males in high school.
2. To develop leadership skills while monitoring, encouraging, and rewarding outstanding academic performance.
3. To refine self-image, self-esteem, social skills, and environment awareness.
4. To assist parents in the handling of their children by giving them opportunities to talk over problems with those who know and are successful in their chosen vocations.
5. To afford youths a respite from the drudgery of the streets, through sponsored entertainment and cultural enrichment; and
6. To inform youth of the value of higher education, assistance available for continued educational pursuits, scholarships, loans, professional counseling, and fellowships.
