The Huntsville Alumni Chapter was chartered February 21, 1960. The charter members of the Huntsville Alumni chapter are Jodie McCrakin, Walter F. Mullins, Edwin S. Hill, Bennett Higgins, Nathaniel Jackson, Conride Holloway, Thomas A. House, Jerry A. Davis, Lionel L. Crump, Thorton  Stanley, Alfred Hall. Over its 48-year history the Huntsville Alumni Chapter has hosted three Province meetings. The 19th Council April 4-5 1969, the 36th March 27-29, 1986 and the 53rd March 27-28, 2003. It has become a life member of the NAACP and has produced a Southern Province Polemarch and Grand Board member: Brother Robert T. Hughes, (1951 Gamma Phi initiate). In 2000 Huntsville Alumni held the distinct honor of being named Southern Province Medium Chapter of the Year. The chapter is also the home of Alabama A&M presidents Dr. Carl H. Marbury (1955 Gamma Phi initiate) and Dr. John T. Gibson, Sr. (1968 Gamma Epsilon initiate).

This chapter is proud to be the home of the following past polemarchs: William M. Johnson a 55 year (1949 Alpha Theta initiate) Robert T. Hughes a 53 year member (1951 Gamma Phi initiate), Lionel L. Crump, Sr. a fifty-year member. James D. Foster, John W. Beale, Theodore C. Dixie, Sr., James M. Mitchell, James Redmond, Thornton Stanley Sr., Homer Reynolds, Benjamin Harrell, Wyla T. Washington, Efrem J. Hanson, Barry Keigler, Brian Wood, Willie Campbell, and present Polemarch Richard Showers, Sr.

The Black and White Ball is a tradition with the Huntsville Alumni Chapter. The chapter’s culminating successes for each year are announced at the ball. In past years thousands of dollars in scholarships and grants are awarded to student and educational institutions at that time. Awards are presented to high achievers and outstanding supporters of the chapter.

The Guide Right program is a program that is rich in the Huntsville Alumni Chapter. Its purpose is to bring together young men from different backgrounds in the Huntsville area and expose them to different cultures and assist them in developing a better appreciation of self worth and teamwork. Events, such as the annual Kappa Football Camp, are designed to encourage teamwork, build character and to instill a zest for knowledge and achievement.

Charitable programs supported by the chapter include food for the needy during Thanksgiving and Christmas; gift wrapping during the Christmas holidays to support local charities and Christmas shopping for kids. We’re also proud to have volunteered for Habitat for Humanity’s Blitz Build 2003.
